Dr. Rafic Younes, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the Lebanese University, presents the HiT4Med project in the session “Good practices and local testimonies” in the framework of the Erasmus+ National Information Day event, held at the Saint Joseph University, Beirut, Lebanon on 10th November 2016.

Prof. Alfonso Montella from the University of Naples, coordinator of the Tempus project HiT4Med has visited the Faculty of Engineering in the project framework in order to monitor the different project’s activities implementation.

Prof. Montella was received by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the director of the section III Dr. Khaled El Tawil, the chairperson of the civil engineering department Dr. Dr Yehia Daou, the director of the Scientific research Center in Engineering Prof. Clovis Francis, the professors and the laboratory assistants of the civil engineering department, the professors involved in the teaching activities in the Master Highway, Transportation and Traffic Engineering, the students who graduated last year and the students enrolled in the academic 2015-2016.

Prof. Montella visited also the Laboratories of the civil engineering department and met the laboratory assistants who explained the outcomes of each experiment.

Prof. Montella went through a deep discussion with the students in order to point out the impact of the new master course on their professional career.

The Professors: Nabil Nehme, Tamara Al Bitar, Nivine Abbas, Lina Bou Haya, Hani Serhal, Zaher massaad and Ahmad Mcheymech, presented in details their courses in terms of Learning Outcomes, Teaching and Learning Methods, Assessment procedures, Quality assurance.

The student Faten Abou Chakra presented her internship and Master thesis implemented with the data collected from Beirut Container Terminal Consortium, the company operating the port of Beirut.


The HiT4Med project manager, Alfonso Montella, presented the project during the event "Mediterranean and Middle East University Network Agreement". The event, of great international relevance, has been organized by the University Federico II with the aim of acquiring a central role, geographical but not only, as part of the Mediterranean and Middle East area. At the event took part 11 universities from the MENA area sharing a scientific, cultural and educational path by mean of an agreement on scientific collaboration' activities, with a focus on life long and continuous education.

Master students in “ Highway Transportation and Traffic Engineering” of the Lebanese University, Faculty of Engineering, have performed a visit to the port of Beyrouth and they were accompanied by Dr Clovis FRANCIS and Dr Emile Youssef. During the visit the port managers group (Beirut Container Terminal Consortium, BCTC) representatives presented to the students the key operations related to vessel scheduling process, which displays the schedule of all vessels calling at the terminal, containers tracking.

A yard visit was also performed showing the major security procedures and measures, the yard space organization and optimization.
During the visit, Dr Francis and Dr Youssef discussed with Mrs Sarah Haidar the possibilities to host internships for the Lebanese University, Faculty of Engineering  Master students. It was also discussed during the visit to  give a seminar at the Faculty of Engineering , by BCTC’s managers that addresses in more details the operations related marine transportation.
